I bought this so my son (almost 2) would be able to reach the sink and learn to brush his teeth on his own instead of me having to do it with a finger brush. It has turned out to be a complete waste of money. I have a regular cabinet style sink, and when my son stands on this, his chin is even with the edge of the sink...not even CLOSE to being able to reach the actual sink or running water.
As for the grip, I have a rug in front of my sink, so I haven't had any issues with the stool slipping, or my son falling off it (which is the reason I gave it two stars and not one). I'm not sure why anyone would need a step stool this low, but it just doesn't work for us. I knew I should have bit the bullet and spent more on the wood stool with two steps, but this had decent reviews...oh well. Basically, unless you have a really tall child, I say skip this.
